Discover the outcomes of our recent efforts to amend the noise by-law in Perth East. Learn about the challenges we faced and the steps we’re taking to ensure a peaceful environment for all residents.

Council Meeting Summary

During the July 9th council meeting, Paul Cooper presented our case for amending the current noise by-law. Despite having 50 signatures from supportive homeowners, the council’s hands are tied. They will draft a letter to Benmet, urging them to consider their neighbors, but have directed us back to the MPP and Ministry of Environment. Our journey continues as we navigate this complex issue.

July 26,2024 update. Official response from the Ministry of Environment: “While the ministry can ensure that the company is operating in accordance with their registration, hours of operation are not covered in this registration. Any concerns related to hours of operation permitted under the municipal by-law, should be addressed by the Township of Perth East. The ministry does not have the authority to enforce municipal by-laws.”

Community Support for By-Law Amendments

Unified Voices for Change

After were directed by the Perth East By-Law officer to seek an amendment to the noise By-Law, we garnered significant support. 50 homeowners residing on Road 111 and Forest Road, all advocating for the proposed amendments to the current noise by-law. This collective effort was formally submitted to the Perth East Clerk.  Despite our persistent efforts, we have encountered numerous challenges, including bureaucratic delays and redirections. The council has acknowledged our concerns but has indicated that their capacity to act is limited. They have committed to drafting a letter to Benmet, urging them to consider the impact on their neighbors. However, we have been redirected to the MPP and the Ministry of Environment, who have previously stated that the issue falls outside their jurisdiction, leading to a frustrating cycle of inaction.
