Serenity Now: Advocating for Noise Control in Perth East

July 26, 2024 update:  Both Perth East and ministry say ‘not it’ to policing recycling facility’s hours – Stratford Beacon Herald News Article July 26,2024

Official response from the Ministry of Environment: “While the ministry can ensure that the company is operating in accordance with their registration, hours of operation are not covered in this registration. Any concerns related to hours of operation permitted under the municipal by-law, should be addressed by the Township of Perth East. The ministry does not have the authority to enforce municipal by-laws.”

The Mindful Peace Project strives to shed light on the impact of these daily intrusive sounds over the years. Our platform showcases the genuine experiences of homeowners, reflecting the true intensity of these noises. It’s essential to understand that what you hear in recordings is just a glimpse of the actual disturbance experienced in person. The variations in sound intensity and duration are influenced by different activities throughout the day. Take a moment to immerse yourself in the reality of noise pollution and its effects on mental health.

The Impact of Noise Pollution

Understanding the Long-Term Effects on Mental Health

Noise pollution, an often overlooked environmental issue, can have significant and lasting effects on mental health. Prolonged exposure to high levels of noise from traffic, construction, and industrial activities can lead to stress, anxiety, and sleep disturbances. Over time, these conditions can contribute to more serious mental health problems such as depression and cognitive decline. Understanding and mitigating the sources of noise pollution is crucial for promoting mental well-being and improving overall quality of life.

Experience the Noise

Incessant Vibrations, Pounding, Metal Crashing, Sounds of Heavy Machinery

Listen to a compilation of daily intrusive sounds. The noise continues every day, Monday through Saturday with Sunday being the only day of respite, other than some holidays. We have been experiencing “explosions,” “earthquake-like shaking vibrations”, “Metal crashing” in our home, that has become a regular part of our daily lives. The noise and vibrations pound us for hours at a time. And when they start before 7am and work past 7pm, it is unbearable.
These audio clips provide a firsthand experience of the noise levels that residents have to endure, highlighting the urgent need for a Noise By-Law change.

While recognizing that scrap metal recycling benefits our environment and community, there should be a balance due to its proximity to residential homes, agreeing on specific operating hours is a reasonable request.
